Shillong, Jun 5: To bolster disaster preparedness, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), along with the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI) and Bethany Hospital in Shillong, conducted a mock drill focusing on earthquake and fire emergency scenarios.
The exercise held on Friday, was aimed at testing the hospital’s emergency response mechanisms, evacuation procedures and coordination among various response agencies during disaster situations.
Preparation for the drill commenced with a one-day training programme on June 4, tailored specifically for medical, para-medical, and hospital staff.
The training session was facilitated by resource persons from MATI, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services, and the DDMA, covering topics, including emergency response protocols, fire safety guidelines, and evacuation procedures, ensuring that the staff was well-equipped to handle potential emergencies.
