There were 24 new Covid-related deaths for a second day running reported across Meghalaya today as well as 811 new Covid-19 cases and a record 679 recoveries.
The total number of coronavirus cases in the state crossed 30,000 today. More than 22,000 of these have recovered thus far.
Seventeen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with three in West Jaintia Hills, two in West Khasi Hills and one each in West Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills. Twenty out of the 24 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death. The others were brought dead to hospital.
The deceased were identified as Aibanlumlang K Blah (35) of Jaiaw, Wanhun Dkhar (40) of Sohryngkham, Bhupen Kolita (62) of Upper New Nongstoin, Excellency Tariang (78) of Umsohsun, Mon Bahadur Chettri (70) of Bishnupur, Womstar Kharbuki (52) of Mawpat, Chanchal Das (48) of Ichamati, Bina Shadap (50) of Sookilo, Arlando Nongrum (67) of Mowtyrchiah, Pristina Dkhar (63) of Lawsohtun, Rupak Sharma (42) of Keating Road, Sobitha D Shira (50) of Rongkhon, Rita Mary Kharmawphlang (50) of Nongrah, Tyrshain Lamare (75) of Moodop, Phrangsngi Lyngwa (50) of Forest Colony in Shillong, Teldinora Kurkalang (56) of Mawklot, Dilu Prasad (82) of Raj Bhavan, Motlaitkyrpang Lyngdoh Nonglait (30) of Kynshi Mawria, Donbokstar Kharsyntiew (78) of Mawlynrei, Sor Kharkongor (56) Mawlynrei, Latona Kharrymba (60) of Nongtyngur, Bronsibon Marboh (71) of Nongrah, Matheus Siangshai (58) of Moolamanoh and Ior Sungoh (55) of Nangbah.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 559 (the highest figure in the district for the last four days) of today’s reported infections, including two among armed forces/paramilitaries, one health worker, 12 returnees, 359 high-risk contacts, 37 influenza-like illness (ILIs), eight severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), 31 through screening, 25 in Mawlai, 25 in Nongmynsong, nine in Umpling and 50 in various other neighbourhood clusters.
Ri-Bhoi reported 103 new cases (one health worker, 65 high-risk, six in Iewmawlong, seven ILIs, two returnees, seven screening, 15 other clusters), West Jaintia Hills 77 (30 high-risk, four ILIs, 10 in Nartiang Law, one SARI, 32 other clusters), East Jaintia Hills 22 (nine high-risk, six ILIs, five returnees, one SARI, one screening), West Garo Hills 21 (five health workers, four high-risk, six ILIs, six in clusters), North Garo Hills 10 (four high-risk, six ILIs), South West Garo Hills six (two high-risk, one ILI, three in clusters), East Garo Hills five (two health workers, three in Rongjeng), South West Khasi Hills four (one health worker, three returnees) and West Khasi Hills four (two screening, two in Upper New Nongstoin).
There were also 679 recoveries today – 425 in East Khasi Hills, 98 in Ri-Bhoi, 44 in West Garo Hills, 39 in West Jaintia Hills, 23 in West Khasi Hills, 21 in East Jaintia Hills, 19 in South West Garo Hills, six in East Garo Hills, three in South West Khasi Hills and one in North Garo Hills.
There are now 7,788 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 4,292 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,187, West Jaintia Hills 568, West Garo Hills 516, South West Garo Hills 302, East Jaintia Hills 266, West Khasi Hills 165, North Garo Hills 150, South Garo Hills 135, South West Khasi Hills 118 and East Garo Hills 89.
In all, Meghalaya has had 30,492 Covid-19 cases, of which 7,788 are active, 22,221 have recovered and 483 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 72.87 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.58 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 932.29.
