Madras High Court’s Judge S Vaidyanathan will soon take over as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
Currently, the office of the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court is vacant following the retirement of Justice Sanjib Banerjee in November last year. Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew was appointed as the acting Chief Justice.
It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court collegium on November 1 has proposed to appoint Justice Vaidyanathan as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
The appointment of Vaidyanathan and six other chief justices to other states was announced by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on X today.
Justice Vaidyanathan was appointed as a Judge of the Madras High Court on October 25, 2013.
His area of practice was labour, service, criminal and company matters. As regards his contribution to the judiciary by way of disposal of cases, during his tenure of ten years as a judge of the Madras High Court, he authored 1219 reported judgments, of which 692 were delivered during the last five years.
