Members of the All Jaiñtia Mid Day Meal Workers Union along with leaders of the cook cum helper met Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma yesterday to extend their appreciate towards the state government’s decision to enhance their honorarium.
The union was led by president, Jerry A Suting, Jena Nengnong President Cook cum Helper of East Khasi district, Charles Shongwan General Secretary of the union in Ri Bhoi District.
The State government had decided to enhance the state’s share of honorarium which was Rs 100 per month to Rs 1100. The cooks cum helpers will now receive honorarium of Rs 2000 for 10 actual working months with effect from April, 2022, out of which Rs 900 is borne by the centre.
The union also placed its pending demand to provide LPG cylinders to every school under the Mid Day Meal Scheme. The demand for LPG is especially for rural schools, where the MDM workers usually have to cook with firewood.
