Shillong, Sep 7: The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) has appointed H Standly (aka Stanley) Rozario as its head coach ahead of the National Games 2027, which Meghalaya will host.
The hugely respected Rozario brings a wealth of experience with him to the job, including extensive knowledge of working in the North East.
He coached Shillong Lajong FC in the debut I-League campaign in 2009-10 as well as that season’s Federation Cup, where the Reds finished as runners-up. Rozario subsequently worked with United Sikkim FC and Aizawl FC in the following years.
The AFC Pro Licence holder has also coached East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Salgaocar, among other notable clubs, as well as the Indian Army/Services team. Between 2006 and 2008 he was also assistant coach to the Indian senior men’s team under head coach Bob Houghton.
The government of Meghalaya is encouraging state sports associations to put their best foot forward at the National Games, with support for infrastructure, equipment, exposure trips and personnel. Hopes are high that Meghalaya will be able to bring joy to the state’s citizens in its favourite sport – football.
The MFA was keen to select a coach who has experience, a track record of success and a proven ability to work with young players and, after an exhaustive search, the association narrowed down and came to a mutual agreement with the legendary Stanley Rozario.
