The All Selsella NGOs’ Alliance has urged the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) to appoint four additional linemen in the area.
In a letter to the MePDCL Director, the organisation highlighted that Selsella is geographically vast and comprises numerous villages and settlements that require regular electrical maintenance and service.
According to the organisation, the area currently has only two linemen stationed to cover the entire area. “These two individuals are commendable, working day and night to manage complaints, line repairs, and emergency issues. However, the existing manpower is grossly inadequate to meet the growing demands and ensure timely and effective power services for the public,” it said.
Residents of Selsella often experience delays in addressing power outages and breakdowns, especially in interior areas that not only affects the daily lives of the people but also disrupts essential services like health care, education, and communication.
Additional linemen would enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of the MePDCL services and ease the workload on the current staff, the organisation added.
