Meghalaya has been turned from an idyllic state to one that is haven for corruption, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate for North Shillong, Elgiva Rynjah, has said.
Rynjah filed her nomination papers for the February 27 election here yesterday.
A newcover to politics and relatively young, she will be up against an array of men, such as former MLA James A Lyngdoh (Congress), former police official Mariahom Kharkrang (BJP), former government engineer Ransom Sutnga (NPP), former health department official Dr Aman War (UDP) and even a former pastor in Kyrsoibor Pyrtuh (independent).
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Rynjah said that the past glory of Meghalaya must be restored and she is ready to begin the fight from within North Shillong.
She pledged that she will campaign solely on her personal strengths and intelligence and reject money power.
Stating that she wants to help women and the youth feel empowered, Rynjah said that the TMC and its 10 pledges on a range of issues have been accepted by the people of the state.
“Voters of North Shillong are intellectual voters and know better whom to vote for. They have very much accepted the TMC and our 10 pledges. We hope and have faith in the voters of the state to run the government,” she said.
