Shillong, May 5: A single bench of the Meghalaya High Court consisting of Justice Wanlura Diengdoh today heard a challenge to the bail given to murder accused Sonam Raghuvanshi.
Sonam, who is being tried for the murder of her husband Raja, had secured bail from a Sessions Court on April 27.
Today’s petition was filed by the state government, which asked the High Court to cancel the bail granted to Sonam.
The High Court did not rule on the matter but instead ordered for another hearing on May 12 after notice is issued to Sonam.
The Sessions Court ordered a bail bond of Rs 50,000 and mandated that Sonam remain within the court’s jurisdiction, except with due permission of the court. The court also stated that Sonam should not abscond or tamper with the evidence or witnesses. Furthermore, she was required to appear before the court during subsequent hearings.
Sonam’s lawyer had argued, successfully, in moving for bail that police had not followed proper procedure and that there were mistakes in the paperwork relating to her arrest.
