Meghalaya is one of the beneficiaries of performance incentive fund identified by the Ministry of Jal Shakti under Jal Jeevan Mission.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti, has approved Rs. 465 crore as ‘Performance Incentive fund” for seven States under Jal Jeevan Mission, which was approved by Union Minister, Gajendra Singh Sekhawat on Saturday.
Apart from Meghalaya, the other States are Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
The performance incentive grant for 2020-21 under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal is to provide assured tap water supply to every rural home by 2024.
For performance incentive grant, the criteria include physical and financial progress under JJM, functionality of piped water supply schemes and capacity to utilize the fund.
According to the Ministry of Jal Shkati, the North Eastern States, despite hilly terrain and forested areas, have implemented JJM with speed and scale.
“It is for the first time that five North Eastern States have qualified for performance incentive grant,” the Ministry added.
The focus of the Ministry of Jal Shakti in improving the water supply by implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission has borne fruits.
Union Minister Shekhawat had a number of review meetings as well as visits to the North Eastern States to expedite the implementation.
The National Jal Jeevan Mission as a part of the Ministry of Jal Shakti sent a number of multi-disciplinary team of experts to help these states to plan better and implement with speed and on scale. Under JJM, these North Eastern States have become among best States/ UTs in terms of performance.
