Shillong, Apr 17: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad K Sangma on Friday congratulated Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma for his party’s landslide victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
The Tipra Motha Party won 24 out of 28 seats in the TTAADC, while the BJP managed to win four seats.
“Congratulations, my dear friend Pradyot Manikya and to his party Tipra for the landslide victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections. Our collective mission for One North East is strengthened by the victory. Great things to follow!” Sangma said in a post.
The elections to the key tribal council, which administers nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s geographical area and is home to nearly 15 lakh people, were held on April 12, with counting of votes taken up on April 17.
The second consecutive TTAADC win for the Tipra Motha Party, floated in 2020 by the former royal scion, with the demand for a ‘Greater Tipraland’, showed its dominance among the state’s tribal community. (PTI)
