Shillong, Jul 28: The office of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem has asked the joint venture between KEC and TCL to submit community-level clearances before it can be issued a trading licence to execute the planned Shillong Ropeway project.
In a letter dated to joint venture’s local authorised representative, the Acting Syiem of Mylliem said the company must first produce a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Dorbar Ki Bakhraw na U San Kur Khatwei Kur ka Raid Mylliem.
It has also sought a resolution from residents of Riat Laban Dorbar covering the seven Dorbar Shnong under its jurisdiction, along with minutes of any public hearing conducted for the project.
The company had earlier submitted documents including GST registration and government approval to establish a site office and stores.
Copies of the letter have been sent to the executive members in charge of Land and Trade at the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and to Hima Mylliem’s Myntri in charge of Land.
Yesterday a group of citizens living in and around the Riat Laban area, mostly led by women, expressed strong concern over the proposed ropeway project up to Shillong Peak. The locals had expressed their resentment over the destruction of the area after seeing the felling of trees to facilitate the project and are concerned that this will affect drinking water sources and have other deleterious environmental consequences.
