Shillong, Aug 27: The Meghalaya team for the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 (Tier 1) campaign for the Dr BC Roy Trophy left Shillong for Bengaluru today.
Meghalaya have been drawn in Group C with Tamil Nadu, Mizoram and Maharashtra. The group winners will qualify for thr semifinals.
Meghalaya will play their first match on 1 September against Tamil Nadu. The 20-member squad will be led by the experienced coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh.
A small send-off was held at the MFA Ground here today with Meghalaya Football Association President Hamletson Dohling, MFA Vice-President Cliff Nongrum and Chairman of the Youth Development Cell Freddy Kharpran present along with family members who were there to wish the boys well.
In his words of encouragement, Dohling reminded them about the importance of discipline, both on and off the pitch. This is a golden opportunity for the players to shine at a national level tournament as they grow in their footballing journey, he added.
