The independent inquiry committee looking into the alleged irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has today submitted its report.
The report was handed over to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in New Delhi today by retired judge Justice R N Mishra who is heading the inquiry in the presence of two other members of the committee – retired IAS officer Manoj Kumar and retired REC executive director Sunil Kumar.
“The committee after looking into relevant records, visiting MeECL offices and holding interaction meetings with its staff has come up with a report on all aspects referred to the Committee by the Government of Meghalaya,” Justice Mishra said in a letter to the chief minister.
The three-member probe committee was constituted on July 29, 2021 after allegations from various quarters regarding mismanagement, siphoning of funds and various irregularities in the functioning of MeECL.
The allegations also led to the removal of then Power Minister James Sangma.

The committee was also tasked to examine the alleged anomalies in the implementation of Saubhagya scheme, tender and procurement, and the recruitment procedures of MeECL and its subsidiaries among others.
