The Meghalaya Physical Education and Sports Association (MPESA) met Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui last week to push its opinion that physical education should be included in the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE).
PE is important to the overall development of children, both physically and mentally, MPESA president Cleverson Syiemlieh said in a release, and MBOSE should make it compulsory for its schools, especially given that the National Education Policy 2020, state Sports Policy 2019 and state Education Policy 2018 all lay emphasis on the subject. The Central Board of School Education and Indian Certificate of School Education also include PE in their curriculums.
MPESA, however, regretted that Rymbui told the delegation that the government does not have the financial resources to make the change in the MBOSE curriculum.
