Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has urged DONER Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia to speedy up sanction for construction of the Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur road in Ri Bhoi.
Syiem, accompanied by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, met with Scindia, who was here to chair a review meeting at the NEC Secretariat.
“The union minister has assured to put this project proposal on a top priority basis. I’m extremely delighted and also thankful to the people of my constituency for their continuous support,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the demand for construction of the road has been on the news last month after Bindas Syiem, a woman from Ri-Bhoi district launched a solo indefinite strike, which garnered support from individuals and organisations.
A detailed project report for construction of the road was been submitted to the centre for its approval.
The upgradation of this road will be in two phase. The first phase of 20 km will be undertaken by the Ministry of DoNER with an estimated cost of 52 crore 98 lakh and the second phase will be done through the PMGSY.
