The Workers Power of Meghalaya, a federation of independent trade unions, North East Domestic Workers Movement, Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) has expressed their solidarity with the working people of Meghalaya on International Workers Day.
“This Day, toiling citizens of Meghalaya demand that this crisis of pandemic is not used to further exploit the working people,” the federation in a statement issued on the eve of May Day said.
Demanding income support, free rations, vaccines and health care for us the Worker’s Power said “If the State ignores the workers, the pandemic is going to destroy the social fabric of our society.”
While these are difficult days for the working people in India amidst the second wave of the raging pandemic, the federation stated that this was brought upon this country by a government which ignores science, works at further privatizing public health system, decimating the legal protection for the working classes and creating divisions amongst the people based on religious identities.
However the Worker’s Power said that it believes that through a strong working class movement and solidarities this crisis can be transcended.
