Years after the state government apparently abandoned a project to construct a residential school in the area under their jurisdiction, the Dorbar Raid of Mawtari Myrdon Sirdarship and the Dorbar Shnong of Mawtari Myrdon said today that they will take back the land that they had donated for the project.
A building was constructed there before being abandoned by the state, as was brought to light by the youth wing of the United Democratic Party (UDP), which visited the site in Ri-Bhoi today.
“We had given the land freely to the government with the intention to promote quality education among the young generation but if the residential school cannot be completed, it is better to take back the land and the abandoned building and use it for the lower primary school, which does not have good infrastructure, ” the Sirdar, BB Nongphlang said.
The UDP’s youth wing will also try to take up the matter with the state government to try and bring the project back on track.
