Leaders of the Manipuri communities residing in Shillong have urged the Meghalaya government to provide assistance in bringing their families here during their difficult times.
The leaders of Hmar, Kuki and other communities of Manipur met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today who has assured support to people affected by the ethnic violence.
“We have told them yes, whatever is possible from our side we will do it in supporting them. This is a very difficult moment and as a state government we understand those concerns and we will do whatever possible to help them and support them,” Sangma said.
He said that the communities have urged the state government to raise certain issues with the centre.
“We can find solutions to the problem, so I urge the people of Manipur we should make sure we bring back peace and stay away from violence,” Sangma appealed.
He also informed that over 300 citizens of Meghalaya have been evacuated from Manipur with only a few staying in the interiors of Manipur. “We are in touch with them and bring them back at an appropriate time,” he added.
