A 37-year-old person was lynched allegedly by angry residents at Umiam in Ri Bhoi district, police said today.
The person was identified as Bartan Marak a resident of a resident of Garogaon, Rowta, Sub-division Udalguri, Assam.
Police said, Marak allegedly attempted to break into the residence of one Moureen Kharnaior, a resident of MIDC, Umiam and threatened her with an air pistol. When Kharnaior resisted Marak tried to flee the area and jumped over a high wall and later was caught by the angry mob who thrashed him.
Police from Umiam police station rushed to the site and brought the situation under control and later shifted the injured person to Shillong Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
Kharnaior was asked to file an FIR on the incident.
