Police in Ri-Bhoi informed today that a body of an unidentified man was found on Tuesday in a field at 17th Mile, with the victim believed to have died by electrocution.
The headman of the village was notified about the body by a villager who found the man’s corpse in a field. Police found that the body was lying near an electric post “with a downed electric conductor on the ground.”
Electrical board officials were summoned to ascertain why the electric wire had fallen. An inquest was held on the spot and a medical officer present estimated that the man had died one or two months ago. The body was then taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for an autopsy and identification by family members.
The man was approximately 5 feet tall and 30-35 years old. He was wearing a white vest, black trousers and red belt and was in the possession of a green cotton shoulder bag. Anyone with information regarding his identity can contact the Nongpoh police control room on 9856084514.
