The Trinamool Congress has named 40 ‘star candidates’ in a declaration to the Election Commission of India for the upcoming February 27 Meghalaya election.
Besides TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the list includes her nephew, TMC general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, West Bengal cabinet minister Manas Ranjan Bhunia and party MPs Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra.
Saket Gokhale, the TMC’s spokesperson who has made a name for himself over the past several months with his incendiary accusations made against Meghalaya government, its ministers and even civil servants, is also in the list, along with prominent figures from the party’s Meghalaya unit.
