Shillong, Oct 20:The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress has rubbished reports that the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president, Vincent H Pala, is about to be removed from the role by the All India Congress Committee.
“These reports are completely untrue and appear to be part of a deliberate attempt by certain political sections to malign his image and destabilise the party’s growing momentum,” state Mahila Congress president Joplyn Scott Shylla said today.
Under Pala, the once mighty Meghalaya Congress has become a shadow of its former self and has proven to be unable to stop a string of defections that have left it with zero MLAs in the Assembly not to mention the district councils.
Shylla mentioned the “setback” of the defections but said that under Pala’s “able and committed leadership” the party is regaining public trust and strengthening its presence across the state. “His efforts have revitalised the party’s grassroots network and re-energised the cadre, particularly among women and youth,” she added. “It is unfortunate that instead of supporting this positive revival, some vested interests are attempting to create confusion and sow discord through baseless rumours. The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress stands firmly behind Vincent Pala and expresses full faith in his leadership.”
