The Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya has informed that as part of the Model Code of Conduct for the ensuing Lok Sabha election, various seizures in the form of cash, drugs, freebies, etc have been made across Meghalaya.
From March 16 to March 31, cash of Rs 18.92 lakh, 16,206 litres of liquor (valued at Rs 28.94 lakh), 123.94 kilogrammes of drugs (valued at Rs 139.09 lakh), 1,083 “freebies” (valued at Rs 48,650) and other items numbering over 3.34 lakh and valued at Rs 200.72 lakh were seized.
Yesterday, a further 2,193.59 litres of liquor (valued at Rs 3.023 lakh) and 25,000-plus other items (valued at Rs 11.75 lakh) were seized.
