Laban Bengalee Boys Higher Secondary School topped both the science and commerce streams of the Meghalaya Board of School Education HSSLC examinations, results of which were announced today. St Anthony’s meanwhile, continued to dominate the top 10 lists.
The results of three streams were declared today – science, commerce and vocational. The science stream saw a total pass percentage of 78.84 and commerce 79.31.
Laban Bengalee Boys HSS bagged both top spots in science and commerce as well as a total of four toppers. The top commerce student was Rishab Purkayastha, while his school mate Arnab Dutta claimed first place in science. Akshat Das (fourth position in commerce) and Suban Das (fourth in science) were the other top students from the school.
Like almost every year, St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School maintained its reputation by bagging most of the top 10 positions. Even though the school missed out on the pinnacle spots, the performance was enough for the principal to declare a special school holiday on Wednesday.
In science, St Anthony’s bagged third, fifth and all positions between seventh and tenth. Commerce was similar, with the school taking second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth places.
Thanking his teachers, Purkayastha, who is currently pursuing his undergraduate studies at St Anthony’s College and hopes to one day be an investment banker, said that with proper guidance from parents and teachers one can achieve anything along with extra effort from oneself.
Dutta said that he was confident of finding a place in the merit list but did not expect first position. Asked how hard he worked to achieve good results, he said that he maintained consistency throughout the year, which lessened the pressure and made it possible for him to score top marks.
A total of 2,405 students appeared for the commerce exams, out of which 1,890 passed. In the science stream, out of a total of 3,682, 2,866 passed.
