The Employment Monitoring Cell of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has objected to reservation of only two seats for the Khasi-Jaintia category in an advertisement for various posts, including nursing officers at NEIGRIHMS.
Chairman of the cell, Reuben Najiar met with the Deputy Director of NEIGRIHMS and sought clarification on the matter stressing on the need for a fair representation of local candidates from Meghalaya.
According to the KSU, the Deputy Director clarified that the current advertisement reflects a backlog of vacancies from previous years that were not filled.
He assured the union that the recruitment process was conducted in accordance with the roster system, which the union can verify.
However, the KSU were not satisfied with the explanation but agreed to review the roster and other official documents.
The KSU highlighted the need for employment policies that prioritize local candidates, citing that many qualified nursing graduates from Meghalaya remain unemployed despite their capabilities.
They argued that since NEIGRIHMS is located in Shillong and primarily serves the people of Meghalaya, recruitment should reflect the local population’s needs.
Najiar said that the KSU cell will soon study the roster system and other recruitment-related documents to be presented by the institute.
