The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has demanded that the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) set up a 132KV power station to serve Nongpoh and Ri-Bhoi as part of measures to halt the erratic power supply to the area.
The KSU’s Nongpoh circle today held a protest rally from Pahamsyiem to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
On the way, the pressure group members also stopped at the MeECL office premises to express their serious concern over the erratic supply of power.
Participating students and school children also carried placards and banners to condemn the frequent power cuts. The local women’s body, headmen and other pressure groups also supported the rally.
The KSU submitted a petition over the power cuts to the DC, MeECL Nongpoh Executive Engineer and local MLA.
