The Khasi Students Union’s Mawkhar and Jaiaw units forced the Ramakrishna Mission building in Jail Road to close today, incensed that it was open on the holiday of Seng Kut Snem.
The KSU singled out Ramakrishna Mission to make its point that every year it is “forced” to intervene and close down institutions, offices and companies that are open on state holidays important to the indigenous community.
The pressure group alleged that most of the organisations that function during these festivals or other holidays are under the management of non-Khasis and that shows their supposed lack of regard towards the sentiments of the local people.
