The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has written to the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP or Mizo Students Association) to express its solidarity with the “tribal Mizo brothers and sisters” over the recent clashes on the disputed border between Mizoram and Assam.
In the letter, KSU General Secretary Donald Thabah highlighted reports that Mizos had been assaulted by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from the Assam side.
“Such is the mentality of the illegal immigrants that their objective is to forcibly snatch away tribals’ [land] in Mizoram and other [North East] states, including Meghalaya.
The KSU extended its “full support” to the Mizo people and, especially, the MZP, who are co-associates of the North East Students Organisation.
“The KSU hopes that, no matter what it takes, Mizos will defend their territory tooth and nail so as to protect their land and borders for the overall wellbeing of their people,” Thabah said. “The KSU will always stand with their indigenous brethren who are bearing the brunt of illegal immigration, like the Mizos, Assamese, Garos, Karbis, Bodos and Tripuris.”
