For the second time, the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) will stage a sit-in protest to pressurise the government to do away with personal interviews in group B, C, and D government posts in line with the Central Government and 23 other states in the country.
The announcement was made yesterday by KHNAM working president, Thomas Passah at a press conference. He said the demonstration will be held on August 19 at Malki Ground from 10 am to 5 pm.
Passah said that the centre’s decision to do away with personal interviews is to avoid nepotism. Hence, recruitment to government jobs should be only on the basis of written examination so that deserving candidates will qualify, he added.
The party has been constantly raising the demand but till date it is still far from settlement.
Passah said that the party had taken up the matter since the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA-I) government and even the present government is keeping quiet on the matter.
Referring to a statement made by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the Assembly session that personal interviews had their advantages as well as disadvantages, KHNAM said that the statement was just a formality.
During the Assembly Session last year the chief minister had reiterated the need for a comprehensive policy to bring major reforms to the job recruitment process in the state.
Passah said that personal interview for government jobs is disadvantageous on many counts like loss of public money, time of the officers and also open avenues for corrupt ways of employment.
He said that the Chief Minister should spell out what are the cons of personal interviews.
