The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has and will continue to stand for the interests of local tribal businessmen and women as per the provisions of the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation 1954.
This was the pitch of KHNAM working president Thomas Passah, who filed his nomination papers for the Jaiaw constituency in the upcoming Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) election today.
Speaking to reporters, Passah said that his party has been continuously raising questions about the failure of the KHADC to deliver as mandated on the provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
He said that the people also need to understand the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution to protect the indigenous community.
Passah appealed to the electorate to elect the candidates who are deserving to represent them and not vote based on party or group who are in the majority.
Other KHNAM candidates who filed their nominations today included Pynshai Mawrie for Mawkynrew, Ericton Donbok Swer for Nongthymmai and Raymond P Basaiawmoit for Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah.
