The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has called for an independent or judicial inquiry into accusations made by the Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) that Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar used to fund the militant group in the past.
While the NPP-led MDA government has not reacted to the accusations, the Deputy Chief Minister on Sunday vehemently denied the allegation, which he termed “totally false and baseless”.
“Had this allegation been against a person from another party, the NPP would have instituted an inquiry,” KHNAM President Thomas Passah stated.
He said for a fair inquiry, Dhar should step down from his post as Deputy Chief Minister. “Let him step down and then there can be an inquiry. If the inquiry finds him not guilty, he can resume his post,” he said.
The KHNAM leader said that the allegation is serious and the government must act.
