The building by-laws formulated by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) have already been applied in hundreds of cases but the council is still looking for the state government to complete the circle and include the KHADC as an authority in the state by-laws.
EM in charge of this issue, Paul Lyngdoh, today said that the council power over building by-laws will be all powerful in tribal areas providing its by-laws do not clash with those of the state.
Besides looking for the KHADC to be an authority under the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act 1973, the council also wants a seat for its Chief Executive Member on the advisory council.
Lyngdoh assured the KHADC that this matter will bear results within two months.
Meanwhile, more than 400 applications by people applying for housing loans have been cleared on the recommendation made by the KHADC by-laws authority.
Applications have also come in for building permission for dwelling units and commercial buildings, including, hotels, homestays, etc.
