The budget session of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will begin on March 11.
The four-day session will pass the council’s budget for 2024-25.
It may be mentioned that the term of the KHADC ended today.
However, the election of the new House could not be held as the State government has extended the present term to another six months.
The extension of the term till August followed the proposal by KHADC for delimitation of its constituencies.
Although the delimitation committee headed by former KHADC judge Stralwell Kharsyiemlieh has completed its hearing process in all 29 constituencies, the final report is yet to be drafted by the committee due to delay by some deputy commissioners to send the electoral rolls of their districts.
Recently, Kharsyiemlieh had said that the committee needs to examine the electoral rolls in order to ascertain the number of voters in each constituency before making a final decision on reorganisation of constituencies for parity in the voters’ list.
