Shillong, Sep 11: The Supreme Court collegium has proposed to appoint Justice Soumen Sen as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
Currently, the office of the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court is vacant following the retirement of Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji on September 5.
Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice till appointment of a permanent Chief Justice.
Justice Sen enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of West Bengal in January 1991 and practiced for over two decades at the Calcutta High Court, both on the original and appellate sides, as well as before various other courts and tribunals.
He was made a Senior Central Government Advocate and appeared in a wide range of matters, including civil, constitutional, banking, and arbitration cases, representing statutory authorities such as the RBI, SEBI, SIDBI, and others.
Justice Sen was elevated as a judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2011.
