The Jaiñtia Students Union (JSU) has warned the Karbi Students Association to refrain from making statements that could lead to unrest over the disputed Blocks 1 and 2 areas.
The JSU reiterated that Block 1 is not a constitutional boundary but was forcefully detached from United Khasi and Jaintia Hills for administrative convenience in 1951.
The pressure group asserted that the people of Block 1 have the right to demand to return to the Jaintia Hills region and warned the KSA that it would be held responsible if any statements on their part lead to communal conflict.
In a separate statement, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) said not an inch of land belonging to Meghalaya will be parted.
KSU West Jaintia Hills Publicity Secretary, Juhhi Tariang has also demanded the state government to take note of the threat statement made by the KSA.
“We are ready to face them (KSA). This is not a threat, but they started it and we will not remain blind and deaf to such unwarranted threats,” Tariang said.
