The Khliehriat circle of the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) marked World Food Safety Day by conducting surprise vigilante inspections of food stalls, hotels and restaurants.
The aim was to evaluate the operations of these establishments, particularly focusing on the cleanliness of the food they serve to the public, the pressure group said in a release.
The inspections revealed that several food stalls and hotels had unsanitary conditions in their kitchens, posing a significant risk of disease transmission to the community and threatening public health, the JNC said, adding that warnings were served on the erring establishments.
Additionally, the council called upon the Food Safety Officer to conduct regular inspections to ensure that food stalls remain compliant and do not become complacent.
