The Green-Tech Foundation (GTF) has unveiled the ‘Shillong Clean and Green Mission’, a comprehensive initiative aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment for Shillong’s residents and visitors.
According to GTF chairman HB Nonglang, the mission is strategically designed to address the pressing issue of cleanliness and environmental conservation in Shillong, which was ranked as one of the dirtiest cities in 2020.
The mission’s key components include regular cleaning exercises conducted at successive intervals, events and programmes to promote civic responsibility and environmental stewardship, large-scale sensitisation efforts to educate citizens about cleanliness and environmental conservation and promoting eco-friendly practices and eco-sensible products.
Nonglang said that the mission will also involve stakeholders through strategic partnerships, including collaborating with drivers’ associations, schools, colleges, government agencies and local authorities, engaging with community stakeholders to promote ownership and participation in environmental conservation efforts.
