The Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS) has condemned a contractor and government officials for allegedly manipulating villagers and the central government in order to show that work under the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide piped water to 133 households is complete even though it was not.
Endick Marak, GHYS president, said that this alleged scam occurred at Era Aning village.
Marak said that the dashboard shows that taps have been connected to all 133 households and two school compounds. “However, in reality, taps have not been connected to more than 30 households and only one school has been connected with one tap in the jungle without waterflow,” he added. “These households are not even connected with the pipelines to their courtyards. The contractor has taken the pipes back from most of the households without tap connection.”
