The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has urged the state government to release Rs 10 crore per month to ensure timely payment of salaries to its members and employees.
According to JHADC Chief Executive Member Thombor Shiwat, irregular release of royalty shares on major and minor minerals has hindered regular salary disbursement.
Shiwat requested the government to adjust the allocated amount from the council’s due share of royalties and taxes.
The JHADC also appealed to the government to review and enhance the royalty share on major and minor minerals, as well as reinstate the earlier procedure for royalty payment. The council emphasised that royalty shares constitute a significant portion of its revenue, essential for sustaining its administration.
Additionally, the JHADC requested the government to share royalty on minerals from the gross collection amount, Share royalty on incidental challans for minerals extracted from council areas, and enhance the royalty rate on major and minor minerals, which remained unchanged for several years.
