The delimitation committee of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) today began its public hearing from Amlarem for the three constituencies- War East, War West and War Central.
The public hearing was held at the Syiem Jingsuk Parish Hall which was attended by the waheh shnongs of several villages who submitted their suggestions and views.
Waheh Shnong of Umladkhur, Dapoi Lyngdoh wanted the village to remain with the Jowai West constituency. The villages of Pdengkarong, Amsyrwai and Amralang want to remain with the War East constituency, the submission which was made by Pdengkarong Waheh Shnong Kolmen Pohshna.
Pdengshakap village represented by P. Pakyntein suggested that the committee tag the village as well as Satpator, Trangblang together as all the three are under the Satpator Elaka.
Residents of Umladkhur and Thangbuli want these two villages to be tagged with Jowai South and the Assistant Waheh Shnong of Bakur, A. Khonglah wants the village to remain with the War West constituency while Waheh Shnong of Amlarem, Kampher Pohlong said a decision will be taken after a discussion with the residents.
Meanwhile, the delimitation committee has set July 19 as the last date to receive views of people on the proposed arrangement of constituencies.
Tomorrow, the public hearing will be held at District Library, Jowai for 16 constituencies which included Amwi-Khliehtyrshi, Mukhla-Ummulong, Moodymmai-Nongkhroh, Wahiajer-Kyndong, Moodop-Umladang, Mynso-Nongjngi, Mynsngat-Khanduli, Shiliang Myntang-Namdong, Barato-Mukroh, Mowtyrshiah-Saphai, Sahsniang-Mowkaiaw, Raliang, Shangpung, Jowai North, Jowai Central and Jowai South.
Residents of 2 villages oppose shifting
Residents of two villages falling under Raij Nangdong in West Jaiñtia Hills District have expressed their opposition against any attempt to shift them to other constituencies in the ongoing delimitation process.
The residents of Namdong-B and Mukhnang said that they were opposed to the draft delimitation of constituencies which was notified recently.
According to the draft delimitation, the two villages are being tagged with Shilliang Myntang constituency from the earlier Mynsngat Khanduli constituency.
