Shillong, Apr 25: A man has filed a FIR at Jadi Police Outpost, South Garo Hills alleging that he was assaulted by a student leader.
Francis S. Marak, a resident of Jadi, in the FIR stated that he was assaulted by Raindon M. Sangma, the vice president of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Nongalbibra region.
According to Marak, the assault occurred on the night of April 23 at around 9:40 pm while he was returning from Gasuapara. As per the allegations, Marak was intercepted by Sangma, who instructed him to halt his vehicle. Upon complying with this order, Marak states he was violently attacked without provocation, sustaining serious injuries from the alleged use of a knuckle guard and additional weapons.
Marak said that this was a deliberate and premeditated attempt on his life. Currently receiving medical treatment, he has expressed concerns for his safety, particularly regarding the accused’s influential position.
Marak has requested that police examine Sangma’s previous reported behaviours involving coercion and extortion related to local businesses. “The accused holds a position of influence which raises serious concerns regarding misuse of power, intimidation, and potential interference with the investigation,” he said.
