Shillong, Apr 25: Hid Foundation Shillong has urged the state government to constitute a full-fledged statutory regulatory body to oversee admissions and fee structures in all educational institutions, both government and private.
The organisation in a memorandum to the Education Minister suggested constitution of a Meghalaya Admission and Fee Structure Regulatory Commission to regulate admissions, determine and rationalize fee structures, and redress grievances pertaining to all schools, colleges, universities, and educational institutions in the state. It suggested for representation from academicians and legal experts within the commission.
Highlighting the critical educational issues and proposes solutions aimed at improving the learning environment the organisation said, “The absence of a uniform regulatory mechanism has caused severe hardship to parents and students. Arbitrary fee hikes, lack of transparency in admission processes, and the growing commercialization of education have become matters of serious public concern.”
Pointing out that similar commissions are already functioning in several states in compliance with judicial directives, the organisation said access to quality education is a fundamental human right. It urged the government to treat this matter as a priority.
Hid Foundation also warned of potential legal action if the government fails to address these critical issues while expressing its readiness to assist the government in framing the necessary regulatory framework.
