Editor,
During the recent election campaign in Meghalaya especially in Garo Hills region we have seen how Union Home Minister Amit Shah castigated the NPP-led government for its alleged corruption and nepotism. Shah even lashed out at Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and urged the voters to end dynasty politics. He even called Meghalaya as the topmost corrupt State in India under the NPP regime. He also threatened to initiate investigation into the various scams in the State.
Today, I was shocked to see news reports about Amit Shah giving his blessings for the formation of a new government in Meghalaya composed of NPP and BJP. I also saw a report on a TV channel stating that Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top BJP leaders would attend the oath taking ceremony of the new NPP-BJP government in Meghalaya.
Is this how the BJP deals with corruption? Has the BJP become a washing machine that a dirty, corrupt and tainted politician can suddenly become clean after joining or supporting the party? We as people of Meghalaya cannot tolerate this lie.
By supporting the NPP to form the government, the BJP and its leaders have swallowed their own vomit. I must thank the people of Meghalaya for not voting for the BJP in the February 27 Assembly elections. The people of the State are politically conscious and can see how the BJP is wearing sheep’s clothing just to win votes.
