In view of the recent review of low performing vaccination on Covid-19 by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and as part of the Intensified Vaccination Plan for Mop Up Vaccination, the District Task Force meeting was held at the Conference Hall, Circuit House, Tura today to discuss about the Covid-19 Vaccination Status in the district.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh informed that though the vaccination drive for Covid-19 achieved 88 per cent however few areas including Asanang, Darenggre, etc in the district remain low despite the close proximity to urban areas.
Mentioning about the Covid-19 cases, he said that the timely vaccination held from February to June, 2021 had helped immensely to protect from the virus and reduce the death rates in the district in the second wave. He appealed to all those unvaccinated to get themselves vaccinated for the safety and welfare of everyone.
Further, he added that in order to prevent the spread of the disease in the coming days with festivals and weddings round the corner, only those who have completed two dose of vaccine will be allowed to attend any kind of social gatherings.
Singh asked organisers to regulate the same adding that everyone should strictly follow Covid-19 protocols such as wearing of mask, maintain social distance and hand hygiene amongst others.
“Now that all the schools have opened and children are still vulnerable with no vaccine available for them as yet therefore, it is necessary for both parents and teachers to be vaccinated to protect the children and avoid unnecessary re-closure of schools, jeopardizing whatever success and improvement has been achieved so far,” he said.
Further he also directed all heads of department in the district to ensure their unvaccinated staff to vaccinate themselves or to submit RTPCR report every ten days if they are unable to take vaccination on genuine reasons. He also appealed to all the citizens to cooperate so as to ensure complete vaccination in the district.
Meanwhile, the DMCHO, Tura Dr. Ivonne M Sangma presented the detailed Covid Vaccination status of West Garo Hills district as on November 2, 2021 and planned session sites for the Mop Up round for Covid-19 Vaccination.
She mentioned that about 9160 Session Sites had been held in the district and so far 210178 were vaccinated with the first dose while 122501 got their second dose. She also informed that session sites have been planned for Mop Up Covid vaccination for Tura Urban area from today to November 12 from 10 am to 3 pm urging unvaccinated citizens to take the opportunity for the safety and security of everyone.
President, Nokma Council, Tura S G Momin, DMHO, Tura Dr. M Sangma, Heads of Departments, Members of ABDK were among others present during the meeting.
