Provisions for supply and use of electricity in multi-storeyed building of more than 15 metres in height (i.e., 5 storeys) will require inspection and testing of electrical installations, wiring etc by the Electrical Inspector for safety.
This is in line with the Sub-Regulation (2) of Regulation 36 of Central Electricity Authority (Measures relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations, 2010.
A statement from the State Senior Electrical Inspector (SEI) today said that all suppliers, licensees, traders or owners of electrical installations are required to follow the rules.
“No electricity supply shall be released, commenced or recommended (after the installation has been disconnected for a period of six months or more) to such buildings without prior inspection and testing,” the SEI said.
Further electricity supply would be released or commenced only after obtaining written approval/issuance of electrical safety certificate from the Inspectorate of Electricity, Government of Meghalaya, the statement added.
