A three-year-old boy drowned in a water tank at his home in Marshillong village, South West Khasi Hills district today, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Mebanshan Thongni.
According to police, the boy was playing outside the house while his mother was inside washing utensils and his father went out to wash clothes.
Later, when his mother went looking for him, as she did not receive any response when she called him, she found the boy inside the 60 litres water storage tank.
The boy was immediately rushed to the community health centre but was declared dead.
Police said the post mortem report suggests that no injuries were found in the body of the child and the father ruled out any foul play in the incident.
A case has been registered and investigation is on.
Meanwhile, a 14-year old boy identified as Mario Thongni, was feared drowned in the Wahkynshi river in the district, today.
Police said, the Search and Rescue Team is on the job in search for the boy, who is a resident of Nongmallang village.
