Nongkrem legislator and Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit today said that his party has prepared a wide range of issues to be taken up during the ongoing budget session.
He however expressed his doubts whether the party would be able to take up all issues during this brief session since most of the vital questions put up by the party MLAs have been dumped.
“Today we have just received the advanced starred questions where many important questions have been dumped and not given priority. So we will miss to debate or deliberate these issues on the floor of the House,” Basaiawmoit said.
According to him, the short duration of the budget session will deprive the party the opportunity to take up all the issues in the House.
When questioned on the opposition unity in the Assembly, Basaiawmoit said that it is not a fact that opposition parties are not together even as he added that when one talks of the opposition unity it does not mean coming under one banner.
“Right from day one we have expressed that we will be cooperating with all the partners in the opposition as long as the issues are pertaining to the State and its people,” the VPP chief said.
He said that the VPP will work with anyone based on issues and the party will not have problems cooperating or supporting issues raised by other parties in the opposition.
“It all depends on how we manage our strategy inside the House. It’s all about seriousness. There are 14 opposition MLAs and if all are serious enough and participate in every question that we put up before the House the government will be placed in a situation that it will not be able to just take things lightly,” Basaiawmoit added.
He said that if other opposition parties in the House take up issues affecting the people in the State the VPP is ready to join hands, support and participate in the deliberations during the proceedings.
