Two organisations in Garo Hills have met with the Divisional Forest Officer of South Garo Hills to bring his attention to illegal quarrying of stone in the Chokpot area.
This issue has been raised before by several pressure groups and was discussed once again yesterday in the meeting with the DFO.
The quarrying in question takes place close to the Darenge River, which is a lifeline of Chokpot residents. The DFO reportedly assured the delegation that illegal quarrying will be stopped.
