The CAU- KVK South Garo Hills under ICAR-ATARI Zone -VII installed an Automated Weather Station (AWS) unit to provide accurate, reliable and real time weather data in remote, inaccessible or hazardous locations.
Sponsored by ICAR-CRIDA Hyderabad under National Innovations Climate Resilient Agriculture Project the weather station is an integrated system of components that are used to measure, record, and often transmit weather parameters such as temperature, wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity, rainfall and precipitation.
Principal Scientist & Head of KVK South Garo Hills, Dr. Athokpam Haribhushan has appealed farmers to adapt AWS data provided by KVK office. He said through this data, farmer can plan their farm operations such as planting, irrigation, manuring, fertilizer application, pruning, weeding, pest and diseases management and harvesting schedules more effectively or livestock mating.
“AWS used to monitor microclimates, manage irrigation, forecast weather accurately, measure rainfall, monitor soil conditions and also enables us to make informed decisions, adapt to changing weather conditions, prepare for disasters and mitigate the impact of extreme weather events. This information and data will benefits the farming community in the district for getting higher crop yields, better quality produce and higher income,” Haribhushan said.
