In accordance with the National Green Tribunal and with the directives issued by the Chief Secretary to prohibit haphazard illegal coal mining and transportation of coal, the District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills under Section 144 of the CrPC has issued orders to curb these practices in the district.
The District Magistrate prohibited illegal transportation of coal along state and national highways within West Jaintia Hills. No illegal mining of coal should be carried out in the entire district and no ferrying or carrying of coal from mines/jungles to the coal depot/stockyard is permitted.
The order, which came into immediate effect, states that if anyone is detected or found violating the above stipulated conditions, stern action will be taken against them as per provisions of the law, including coal mine owners, labourers, truck owners, drivers, etc.
